Specialized GI Motility Workshop at Minia University
Puplish date: 2026-01-14

A specialized workshop on gastrointestinal motility (GI Motility Workshop) was successfully organized at Minia University in collaboration with the University Liver and Gastroenterology Hospital. The event was held under the generous patronage of the university leadership, hospital administration, and the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit, and was supervised and coordinated by the Department of Tropical Medicine, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to advancing specialized medical services in Upper Egypt.

Patronage and Supervision

The workshop was held under the auspices of:

  • Prof. Dr. Ayman Hassanein, Vice President of the University for Environmental and Community Affairs and Executive Director of University Hospitals
  • Prof. Dr. Mostafa Abou Ela, Director General of the University Liver and Gastroenterology Hospital
  • Prof. Dr. Alaa El-Sweify, Director of the Endoscopy Unit
  • Prof. Dr. Yasser Mahrous Fouad, Professor of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, and Infectious Diseases

Guest Expert

The hospital hosted Dr. Salma Emran, Lecturer of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Infectious Diseases, Consultant of GI Motility, and Head of the Gastrointestinal Motility Unit at the Integrated Clinical Research Center for Intestinal Disorders (ICRID), Kasr Al-Ainy Hospital, Cairo University. Dr. Emran actively participated in the workshop, sharing her advanced expertise in diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal motility disorders with the hospital medical team.

Clinical Program

The workshop included an intensive clinical program, during which Dr. Emran performed eight cases requiring motility measurement of the esophagus, rectum, and anus using the hospital’s newly available motility device. These practical cases provided a valuable hands-on training opportunity for physicians and the medical team to familiarize themselves with the latest diagnostic techniques and clinical protocols in gastrointestinal motility disorders.

Advanced Diagnostic Infrastructure

The GI motility device at the University Liver and Gastroenterology Hospital is the first of its kind in Upper Egypt, representing a significant enhancement of the region’s advanced diagnostic capabilities. This device provides accurate and specialized medical services for patients with esophageal and anorectal motility disorders, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to other governorates for such specialized tests.

Significance and Impact

The workshop, along with its clinical and educational activities, reflects the hospital’s dual commitment to continuous medical training and the provision of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in Upper Egypt. Additionally, it underscores the importance of scientific collaboration between universities and specialized centers nationwide, supporting knowledge exchange and improving the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

This initiative marks an important step toward elevating specialized gastrointestinal care and training in Upper Egypt, positioning Minia University and its affiliated hospital as leaders in advanced clinical education and patient care in the region.
